The journey begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun to Lohajung, a small mountain village that serves as the base camp. The road winds along the holy rivers and dramatic mountain valleys, crossing the sacred confluences of Devprayag and Rudraprayag, where the rivers merge in stunning harmony. By the time you reach Lohajung, the crisp mountain air and slow-paced village life set the tone for the days ahead.

From Lohajung, the trail descends toward the Neel Ganga River before climbing steadily through dense oak and rhododendron forests to Didina village. This section introduces you to authentic Himalayan village life, wooden homes, terraced fields, and warm local hospitality.

As you ascend further via Tolapani, the forest gradually thins — and suddenly, the landscape opens into an endless stretch of rolling green carpet. Welcome to Ali Bugyal. Standing at over 11,000 ft, these meadows feel surreal — vast, silent, and wind-swept. On clear days, towering Himalayan giants like Mt. Trishul and Mt. Nanda Ghunti dominate the horizon, appearing almost close enough to touch.

The walk from Ali to Bedni Bugyal is easily one of the most scenic ridge walks in the Indian Himalayas. The trail rolls gently across high-altitude grasslands with uninterrupted 180-degree mountain views. Bedni Bugyal carries spiritual importance, especially because of Bedni Kund — a small alpine lake that reflects the mighty Trishul massif. Local legends connect this region to the ancient Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, adding a sacred dimension to the trek.

Descending toward Gehroli Patal, the terrain shifts once again into dense forests draped in moss and silence. The final day’s descent to Wan village takes you through ancient oak woods and across wooden bridges over the Neel Ganga, bringing the journey full circle.

Day 1: Dehradun to Lohajung (2,335 M)

Duration: 8–9 Hours

Depart from Dehradun early in the morning for Lohajung, the base camp of the trek. The drive takes you through the scenic mountain roads of Uttarakhand via Rishikesh and along the Alaknanda valley. En route, you will pass the sacred confluences of Devprayag and Rudraprayag, where rivers meet amidst dramatic Himalayan landscapes.

Arrive at Lohajung by late afternoon. This small Garhwali village offers magnificent views of surrounding peaks and serves as the starting point for many high-altitude treks. Dinner and overnight stay will be arranged in a guesthouse/lodge.

Day 2: Lohajung (2,335 M) to Didina (2,452 M)

Drive: 5 Kms
Trek: 6 Kms
Duration: 4–5 Hours

After breakfast, take a short drive from Lohajung to the trek starting point. The trail initially descends steeply toward the Neel Ganga River. After crossing the river via a bridge, the path gradually ascends through dense oak and rhododendron forests.

The trek is moderate and allows proper acclimatization. Reach Didina village by afternoon — a peaceful Himalayan hamlet known for its traditional wooden houses and warm hospitality. Overnight stay will be arranged in tents or homestay.

Day 3: Didina (2,452 M) to Ali Bugyal (3,450 M)

Distance: 8 Kms
Duration: 5–6 Hours

Begin the day with a steady climb towards Tolapani. The ascent is continuous but rewarding. As you gain altitude, dense forests gradually open into vast alpine meadows.

You will soon step into Ali Bugyal — one of Asia’s largest high-altitude meadows. The endless rolling grasslands offer breathtaking views of Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. Spend the evening soaking in panoramic Himalayan vistas. Overnight stay in tents at Ali Bugyal campsite.

Day 4: Ali Bugyal (3,450 M) to Bedni Bugyal (3,515 M) & Gehroli Patal (3,200 M)

Distance: 10 Kms
Duration: 6–7 Hours

Today is one of the most scenic days of the trek. Walk along the high ridge connecting Ali and Bedni Bugyal, with uninterrupted mountain views throughout the trail.

Visit the sacred Bedni Kund, a small alpine lake that holds religious significance and reflects the majestic Trishul massif on clear days. After spending time at Bedni, descend gradually into the forested campsite of Gehroli Patal. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 5: Gehroli Patal (3,200 M) to Wan | Drive to Lohajung

Trek: 12 Kms
Duration: 4–5 Hours

Descend through dense oak forests toward the Neel Ganga bridge. The trail is steep in sections and requires careful footing. After crossing the river, a short ascent leads to Wan village — the road head of the trek.

From Wan, drive back to Lohajung. Check into the hotel/guesthouse. Dinner and overnight stay in Lohajung.

Day 6: Lohajung to Dehradun

Distance: 260 Kms
Duration: 8–9 Hours

After an early breakfast, begin the return journey to Dehradun via Rishikesh. The drive takes approximately 8–9 hours. Expect to reach Dehradun by evening (around 7:00–7:30 PM).
