Trek Itinerary : Hampta Pass Trek

Day 1: Manali to Chhika via Jobra – Walk Through Forest Cover
Your adventure begins at 12:00 PM in Manali, from where you’ll be driven 16 km (approximately 1 hour) to Jobra (2,800 m). From here, a short and scenic trek of about 3 km (2 hours) will take you to Chhika (3,100 m). The trail meanders through dense forests of maple, deodar, and pine, accompanied by the melodic sound of the Rani Nallah stream. You’ll reach your campsite between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM, depending on trail and weather conditions. It is highly recommended to reach Manali a day in advance to avoid delays.

Day 2: Chhika to Balu Ka Ghera – Stay at a Beautiful Campsite
After breakfast, begin your gradual ascent from Chhika to Balu Ka Ghera (3,600 m). The trek covers 6–7 km and takes about 5 to 6 hours, passing through alpine meadows, boulder-strewn trails, and occasional stream crossings. You’ll witness the landscape opening up to panoramic views of the Dhauladhar range. Balu Ka Ghera, nestled in a river valley surrounded by high cliffs, offers a peaceful setting for your second night in the mountains.

Day 3: Balu Ka Ghera to Shea Goru via Hampta Pass – Panoramic Mountain Views
Today is the most thrilling and challenging part of the trek. Begin early for the 7 km trek which will take 9 to 10 hours in total. You’ll first ascend steeply to reach the Hampta Pass (4,300 m), the highest point of the trek, offering unmatched views of the snow-capped peaks and glaciers of Lahaul Valley. After taking in the surreal vistas, begin the steep descent to Shea Goru (3,900 m), a cold desert-like campsite on the Lahaul side. This is a long and strenuous day, but incredibly rewarding.

Day 4: Shea Goru to Chatru & Drive to Chandratal – Bask in the Serenity of the Lake
Begin your descent from Shea Goru to Chatru (3,350 m) over a span of 7 km, taking around 5 hours. The trail gradually flattens out and opens into a vast landscape characteristic of Spiti. From Chatru, if road and weather conditions permit, you’ll drive 50 km (3–4 hours) to the stunning Chandratal Lake, a high-altitude alpine lake famous for its crescent shape and crystal-clear waters. After exploring the lake, return to the campsite near Chatru or Chandratal depending on the final plan.

Day 5: Chatru to Manali – Bid Adieu to the Mountains
On the final day, drive 65 km back to Manali, which will take around 5 to 6 hours. The route offers incredible views and may pass through the Atal Tunnel or Rohtang Pass, depending on accessibility. This marks the end of your memorable Hampta Pass journey, full of changing landscapes, high-altitude adventures, and cherished moments in the Himalayas.
